A desktop study is written to provide in-depth information on a particular site, for example at a proposed cable landing site. Such studies often include bathymetry, geology, oceanography, climatology and meteorology, fisheries, shipping, restricted areas, route obstacles, existing submarine cables and pipelines, and survey recommendations.
Maps, text and contacts are usually provided within the report. The contacts are included to allow follow up at points of specific interest or to contact relevant groups and organisations, such as for obtaining the necessary permits in connection with future marine operations.
